KnowDis and the Yardi School of AI, IIT Delhi organized the fourth edition of KnowDis Machine Learning Day. This was an online event held on 14th October 2022.
The first edition of KnowDis Machine Learning Day was organized at IIT Delhi on 28th July 2019.
The event celebrated the advances made in the field of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence and recognized the contribution of leading researchers and professors to the field.
The second edition of KnowDis Machine Learning Day was held in partnership with the School of AI, IIT Delhi on 5th December 2020.
This was a full-day online event, attended by 1000+ people along with foremost researchers from top universities.
The Third edition of KnowDis Machine Learning Day was held in partnership with the School of AI, IIT Delhi on 3rd December 2021.

Mr. Pankaj Rai
Group Chief Data Analytics Officer, Aditya Birla Group
Bio - Pankaj Rai is the Group Chief Data Analytics Officer at Aditya Birla Group. In this role, he leads the Group’s strategy on Analytics and Data Science enabling its varied businesses, ranging from Cement, Chemicals, and Metals to Fashion Retail & Financial Services to enhance their decision-making capabilities using data science. He also enables the analytics maturity journey of the business teams by creating digital products and platforms that can be scaled across the group and beyond. Before this Pankaj worked as the Senior Vice President, Strategy at Wells Fargo where his key initiatives included establishing the digital capabilities to enable the Bank’s digital channels and building an internal consulting team to drive global programs. He also worked as the Director of Analytics at Dell. He led a team in business research, data analysis, and statistical modeling across domains like marketing, strategy, pricing, online, supply chain, and financial services. Prior to joining Dell, Pankaj was Head, of Program Management Office at Standard Chartered Bank in their Singapore regional office wherein he helped grow their shared service centers in India and Malaysia. In his professional career spanning 25 years, Pankaj started as a management consultant and then went on to work in the financial services industry in India wherein he worked with ICICI and GE Capital in various roles covering sales, risk management, six-sigma, and operations. Pankaj has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi and an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad.

Bio: Dr. Pushpak Bhattacharyya is a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay. He has done extensive research in Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning. Some of his noteworthy contributions are IndoWordnet, Eye Tracking assisted NLP, Low Resource MT, Multimodal multitasked multilingual sentiment and emotion analysis, and Knowledge Graph-Deep Learning Synergy in Information Extraction and Question Answering. He has published close to 400 research papers, has authored/co-authored 6 books including a textbook on machine translation, and has guided more than 350 students for their Ph.D., master's, and Undergraduate thesis. Prof. Bhattacharyya is a Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering, Abdul Kalam National Fellow, Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, past Director of IIT Patna, and past President of ACL.

Bio: Sayan Ranu holds the joint positions of Nick McKeown Chair Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Eng. and the Yardi School of AI at IIT Delhi. His research interests span the broad area of network science with a particular focus on graph neural networks, social network analysis, querying and mining Spatio-temporal data, and bioinformatics. Prior to joining IIT Delhi, he spent close to three years as an Assistant Professor at IIT Madras and a year and a half in the role of a Research Scientist at IBM Research. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Department of Computer Science, University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) in March 2012. In 2020, Sayan was inducted as an Associate of the Indian Academy of Sciences (IASc). He regularly publishes in premier data-mining venues including NeurIPS, WWW, SIGMOD, VLDB, and KDD. He received the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Web Information Systems Engineering (WISE) 2016, Best-of-IEEE-ICDM-2016 selection, Most Reproducible Paper Award at SIGMOD 2018, and Outstanding Reviewer Award at WSDM 2021. Sayan regularly serves on the program committees and review panels of prestigious conferences and journals including KDD, ICDE, ICDM, WWW, AAAI, TKDE, and VLDB Journal. Sayan has been granted 5 US patents. Sayan’s dissertation on graph-based techniques for querying and mining molecular databases served as the seed idea behind a life science-based R&D start-up focusing on advanced technology for drug discovery.

Mr. Saurabh Singal

Bio: Saurabh Singal holds a B.Tech. degree in Computer Science & Engineering from IIT Delhi and an M.S. from Carnegie Mellon University. He worked in leading investment banks (Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch, and Credit Suisse) and hedge funds (Harborview, Manchester Partners) in the global financial hubs (Tokyo, New York, London, and Singapore) as a derivatives trader. He went on to manage the Indea ANKAM Fund, a quant hedge fund in Singapore, which used highly sophisticated and intelligent algorithms for making trading decisions. After leaving the world of investment management, Saurabh founded Ankam, a Singapore-based Machine Learning company that provided its clients with algorithmic solutions in the domains of Pharma and Finance. Saurabh founded KnowDis Data Science in 2018.

Bio: Prof. Milind Tambe is Gordon McKay Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Center for Research in Computation and Society at Harvard University; concurrently, he is also Principal Scientist and Director of "AI for Social Good" at Google Research. He is the recipient of the IJCAI (International Joint Conference on AI) John McCarthy Award, AAMAS ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Autonomous Agents Research Award, AAAI (Association for Advancement of Artificial Intelligence) Robert S. Engelmore Memorial Lecture Award, and he is a fellow of AAAI and ACM. He is also a recipient of the INFORMS Wagner prize for excellence in Operations Research practice and the Rist Prize from MORS (Military Operations Research Society). For his work on AI and public safety, he has received the Columbus Fellowship Foundation Homeland security award and commendations and certificates of appreciation from the US Coast Guard, the Federal Air Marshals Service, and airport police in the city of Los Angeles.

Dr. Aparna Taneja
Researcher for AI for Social Good Team, Google Research India
Bio: Dr. Aparna Taneja is a researcher at the AI for Social Good team in Google Research India. She collaborates with several NGOs and academic partners in the fields of public health and conservation, and her primary focus is a collaboration with ARMMAN, an NGO focused on improving maternal and child health outcomes in India. Aparna joined Google in 2015 and worked with the Google Maps team in Zurich to improve search quality for Maps. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science at ETH Zurich under the supervision of Prof. Marc Pollefeys. She then pursued a postdoc at Disney Research Zurich. She received her bachelor's and master's in Computer Science from IIT Delhi in 2006.
